Cyclists With Disabilities Make Historical Appearance @ RHB LEKAS Highway Ride 2023

RHB LEKAS Highway Ride 2023 is a major annual cycling sports event in the country organised by IJM Corporation Berhad held along LEKAS Highway. Their main objective is to inspire the public to embrace a healthy lifestyle as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The event, 8th series to date, scheduled for 21 October will see more than 6,000 participants from home and abroad taking part. 

To promote the spirit of inclusivity, RHB LEKAS Highway Ride will see the participation of cyclists with disabilities for the first time. This initiative is the result of IJM’s invitation to Paralympic Council Malaysia to a special category for 20 cyclists with disabilities to cycle 22km in the event.

ASEAN Para Sports Federation hosted APSF Strategic Planning Meeting on 28 July 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Secretary-General of Paralympic Council Malaysia, First Admiral Dato’ Subramaniam Raman Nair (R) was invited to attend the welcoming dinner at KL Tower 360 Restaurant, hosted by Secretary-General of APSF, Senior Colonel Dr Wandee Tosuwan.

Lazada Run

Lazada Run Events are organised by Lazada across Southeast Asia in 6 cities. It aims to engage experiential zones featuring popular brands and to inspire fitness among its consumers. 

Lazada Malaysia partnered with Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) for Lazada Run to promote inclusivity and supports athletes with disabilities. A total of 40 para-athletes joined the free 1 KM route held on 16 July 2023 in Cyberjaya. YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports flagged off the event.  

President PCM, Dato' Sri Megat D. Shahriman Dato' Zaharudin received a mock cheque amounting to RM50,000.00 from Chief Executive Officer Lazada Malaysia, Mr Alan Chan. The proceeds are to support PCM's initiatives which include TambahEMAS Paris 2024 campaign.  

This initiative by Lazada showcases their corporate social responsibility to take steps to make persons with disability inclusive in our society. An effort by Lazada for #WeThe15 Campaign

Sports Victory Prize Scheme (SHAKAM) Presentation Ceremony 2023

The Sports Victory Prize Scheme (SHAKAM) Presentation Ceremony, organised by MSN Malaysia, took place on 12 July 2023 time 8.30 pm at Hotel Tenera, Bangi. This ceremony marks the country's appreciation for athletes who won medals and contributed to the success of the National Contingent at Cambodia 2023 SEA Games, the Cambodia 2023 ASEAN Para Games and 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany.

The ceremony was officiated by YAB Dato' Seri Dr. Ahamd Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister Malaysia. YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports, as the ceremony's host delivered the welcome speech and provided information on the contribution by the nation's athletes during the Games. Meanwhile, the Deputy PM in his speech stressed on government's commitment to continue helping the National Sports Movement from the aspect of development policies and appropriate budgetary allocations. 

During the ceremony, the medal winners for all 3 games were given cash incentives according to Sports Victory Prize Scheme. As for the ASEAN Para Games medallists, the para athletes took home SHAKAM rewards amounting to RM1.18 million (50 Gold, 38 Silver and 34 Bronze). Para swimmers received RM494,500 for their outstanding achievements of winning 26 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze.

"I express my sincere appreciation to the government for all contributions, especially regarding the government's policy to give equal cash prizes to athletes with disabilities," said Dato' Sri Megat D. Shahriman Dato' Zaharudin, President of Paralympic Council Malaysia, who was present at the ceremony. He added, “This proves the government's determination to uphold the concept of inclusivity in accordance with Malaysia Madani.” PCM Secretary General, First Admiral Dato Subramaniam Raman Nair (R) and Miss Noor Syahieda Mat Shah, CdM Cambodia 2023 ASEAN Para Games & PCM Vice President also attended the ceremony.

Rebranding Rakan Muda

The Launching Ceremony of Rakan Muda, which was given a new breath, was officiated by YAB Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 25 June 2023 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi.

The Rakan Muda initiative is now rebranded by KBS with the objective of becoming a platform for passing quality time and fostering unity.

Also, present were the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Adam Adli Abd Halim, President of Paralympic Council Malaysia, Dato' Sri Megat D Shahriman Dato' Zaharudin and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman who was the minister when the program was launched in 1994.

Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris Students Visits Paralympic Council Malaysia

Students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) visited Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) on 21 June 2023 at the Paralympic Sports Excellence Center Kg. Pandan. The main purpose of the visit is to introduce the fundamentals of Paralympic Movement to students who are majoring in Paralympic Coaching.

First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman Nair (R), Secretary General of PCM presented a briefing and engaged the students through a question-and-answer session on sports for persons with disabilities. This briefing provided exposure related to the management of para sports and handling of para-athletes. It is aimed to increase UPSI students' knowledge about para sports and how they are contested in para sports competitions.

TambahEMAS Paris 2024 – Never Give Up!!!

Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Health Lane Family Pharmacy Sdn Bhd (Health Lane) on 26 May 2023. The MoU kicks of a collaborative initiative between Paralympic Council Malaysia and Health Lane Family Pharmacy to embark on a Fund-Raising Campaign of TambahEMAS Paris 2024 for Team Para Malaysia to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, scheduled as from 28 August to 8 September 2024.
Team Para Malaysia has won 6 gold medals in the Paralympic Games series – 3 at Rio 2016 and 3 more at Tokyo 2020. We are now on a mission to increase these counts – TambahEMAS – to hit a new target – Pingat Emas Ke-10.

One of Malaysia's top community pharmacies, Health Lane Family Pharmacy, in collaboration with PCM embodies the phrase "NEVER GIVE UP" in pursuit of greatness despite enormous obstacles. Health Lane believes that the athletes with disabilities should be given adequate support system to scale greater achievements that can serve as an inspiration to our society.

The TambahEMAS Paris 2024 Box will be located at all Health Lane Family Pharmacy cashier counters as from 1 June to 31 December 2023. You can support the Paralympic Movement by contributing to PCM "TambahEMAS" campaign fund by cash contributions into the box or by using the QR Code. This effort by the community will help to instill a sense inclusivity and elevate our Paralympic Movement in Malaysia to greater heights.
 


Executive Board Visits YB Hannah Yeoh

The Executive Board of Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) made a courtesy call on YB Hannah Yeoh, the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia on 24 May 2023 at the Malaysian Parliament.

The primary objective of the visit is to introduce PCM Management Team, to discuss PCM activities and to exchange ideas and discussion on the nation's vision for Paralympic Movement in the country.

President Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM), Dato' Sri Megat D Shahriman, accompanied by Secretary-General, First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R) and Assistant Secretary-General, Puan Siti Zaharah Abdul Khalid paid a courtesy call on YAB Tun Jeanne Abdullah, Patron of PCM at Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Office in Putrajaya on 20 May 2023. Dato' Sri Megat briefed YAB Tun on current proceedings at PCM, including the forthcoming ASEAN Para Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia early June as well as Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China in October 2023. On completion, the entourage joined YAB Tun Jeanne's Raya Open House feast.

Community Outreach Initiative for Robotic Rehabilitation

YB Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Member of Parliament of Bandar Tun Razak officiated ReGen Rehab Hospital’s Launch of their Community Outreach Initiative for Robotic Rehabilitation on 17 May 2023. ReGen’s Community Outreach Initiative offering specialised robotic rehabilitation services to individuals with neurological conditions. Its mission of “Bringing You Back” by helping individuals and patients of all backgrounds and ages regain their health and quality of life with specialised rehabilitation care. Secretary General Paralympic Council Malaysia, First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R) also attended the Launch.

‘MAJLIS BERBUKA PUASA’

“Majlis Berbuka Puasa” PCM was held at KL Tower 360 Restaurant to strengthen the fellowship between PCM Members (National Sports Associations), National Sports Council (MSN) and Media Representatives who are all working together to drive Paralympic Movement to greater heights.

Disabled Sports Development Workshop



The National Youth & Sports Department through Perak State Youth & Sports Department organised the 2023 Perak Central Zone Level Disabled Sports Development Simulation Workshop from 14 to 17 March 2023 at FELDA Trolak Training Institute, Sungkai, Perak Darul Ridzuan. The purpose of the workshop is to implement improvement of the disabled Sports development module involving Inspire i-Talent, Inspire i-Train and Inspire Exploration programs.

Paralympic Council Malaysia was invited to give a talk on classification aspect which is important especially for Disabled Sports. The talk was delivered by Puan Nurul Farahani Abdul Rahman, Sports Executive - Technical of Paralympic Council Malaysia and Cik Nor Azimah Bahauddin, International Classifier of Para Powerlifting.

Courtesy Visit

15 March 2023

Dato’ Sri Megat D.Shariman bin Dato’ Zaharudin, President Paralympic Council Malaysia and Secretary-General First Admiral Dato’ Subramaniam Raman (R) paid a courtesy visit to YB Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of National Unity Malaysia on 15 March 2023 at the Malaysian Parliament House. Primary aim of the visit was to engage the ministry to include unity programs for persons with disabilities, in line with Malaysia Madani call for an inclusive society for national harmony.

Safe Sport Code Launch


YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth & Sports Malaysia, launched the Safe Sport Code on 15 March 2023 at the Podium Hall, Menara KBS, Putrajaya.

Safe Sport Code is a guideline developed by Ministry of Youth & Sports Malaysia to provide guidance on a safe sports environment as well as the roles and responsibilities of all parties in dealing with harassment and abuse in sports.

The development of this code is in line with the National Sports Vision 2030 to form an active lifestyle in an inclusive and safe sports environment. This code is also developed based on international references and local laws and regulations.

President of Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM), Dato' Sri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin was one of the main persons who signed the launch certificate as our indication of support and commitment to the Safe Sport Code.

Paris 2024

The Relais autour du monde, a worldwide relay event, was organised by 128 French embassies and overseas territories on 14 March 2023, to commemorate the 500 days before the opening of Paris Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024.  Malaysia is one of the countries taking part in the relay which took place at Lycée Français de Kuala Lumpur (French School of Kuala Lumpur) Segambut. 
Start of the relay – taking of the baton by Malaysia from South Korea and passing it to the next country, Cambodia. Some sports activities like climbing, badminton, table tennis and blind football were among the activities played by students, volunteer teachers, embassy employees and guests at the event.

YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth & Sports Malaysia and His Excellency Axel Cruau, Ambassador of the Embassy of France in Malaysia attended this function. Paralympic Council Malaysia was represented by Secretary-General, First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R).

Para-Athletes - Blind Bowling Departed

2 March 2023

Malaysian Blind Sports Association organised their para-athletes - Blind Bowling to participate in the 12th IBBA 2023 World Championship in Tweed Heads NSW, Australia. The Championships hosted by the Australian Blind Bowlers Association, start from 5 till 15 March 2023. The Malaysian contingent departed on 2 March 2023. All the Best!

KBS Open Day 2023


On 28 February 2023, several Ministry of Youth & Sports (KBS) agencies held a “Meet The Customer Day” in conjunction with the 2023 KBS Open Day at KBS Podium Hall, Putrajaya. Minister for Youth & Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh has taken this initiative to provide information and services directly for the development of sports ecosystem in the country. She made a visit to the information booth provided by the various agencies. Among the visitors present included representatives of sports associations and private entities involved in the management of sports events. Secretary General Paralympic Council Malaysia, First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (B) also attended this Open Day.

PCM “WeThe15” OUTREACH PROGRAM

23 February 2023

Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) was invited by Garden International School Kuala Lumpur (GIS) to participate in Paralympic Talk for Inclusive Week Program on 23 February 2023 at Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. GIS’s campaign is intended to provide motivation and awareness for their students of Year 7, 8 & 9.

PCM participated in this program as part of our effort to promote “WeThe15” Campaign to create greater awareness of Paralympic Movement and also to provide an opportunity for our para-athletes to contribute towards building up an inclusive society.

Our para athletes Gloria Gracia Wong Sze and Brady Chin Zi Rong (Para Table Tennis) gave talks sharing their challenges faced in life, their involvement and experiences in para-sports.

2022 Annual Wheelchair Rugby Championship

President of Paralympic Council Malaysia, Dato' Sri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin, as well as Secretary-General First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (B), Deputy Director of Sports & Recreation Ministry of Youth & Sports, Mr. Tony Azman Bin Hassan, President Malaysian Wheelchair Rugby Federation, Dato' Teoh Gek Heng and Secretary Dr Ang Kean Koo attended the 2022 Annual Wheelchair Rugby Championship on 12 February 2023 at Malaysian Paralympic Sports Center of Excellence.

2021 National Sports Awards Ceremony

National Sports Council (MSN) Malaysia has organized the prestigious National Sports Awards since 1966. This honor signifies the nation's full appreciation for outstanding Malaysian athletes and sports figures for the best sporting achievements of the year. The 2021 National Sports Awards Ceremony was held on 31 January 2023 at the Banquet Hall, Casa 4, MSN, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony was officiated by the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh delivered the welcome speech. Several members of the Paralympic Movement were honored. Mr Bonnie Bunyau Anak Gustin, a Para Powerlifting athlete was bestowed the honour as the National Paralympic Sportsman, meanwhile Miss Brenda Anellia Larry, a Para Swimming athlete, was given the National Paralympic Sportswoman award. Mr Jamal Adam, Para Powerlifting Coach who has coached Bonnie and world class athletes, was given the National Men's Coach Award.

PCM conveys gratitude and is thankful to the government, especially the Ministry of Youth & Sports for their support in honoring the members of Paralympic Movement. PCM also congratulates every recipient and candidates for National Sports Award 2021.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Representative Visits Paralympic Council Malaysia

24 - 27 January 2023

Mr Gabriel Ojeda Nino, IPC Manager Membership Programmes, visited Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) at Paralympic Sports Centre of Excellence Malaysia, Kampong Pandan, Kuala Lumpur from 24 to 27 January. The main objective of this visit was to assess the governance of PCM and utlisation of grants given by IPC.

We were assessed on Compliance with IPC Constitution; Governance & Organisation Development; Strategic Planning; Human Capital Development; Marketing & Communication; Sports Technical & Planning Capacity; Financial Management; International Competition and Athlete Pathway Perspective. Mr Nino also explained about types IPC Grants available and procedures on how to apply and spend such grants.

PCM gained useful knowledge and feedback provided by Mr Nino. He also expressed his great satisfaction about the way Malaysia is structured to drive Paralympic Movement in the country. He shall be sharing our experiences with other developing National Paralympic Committees for benchmarking purposes.

PCM is grateful that we have been chosen for an in-depth assessment by IPC and would like to thank Mr Gabriel Ojeda Nino for his valuable contributions.

KUALA LUMPUR FEDERAL TERRITORY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ARTS, CULTURE, SKILLS, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP SPECIAL EDUCATION FESTIVAL 2023

The Festival of Arts, Culture, Skills and Entrepreneurship of Special Education of Department of Education of Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Year 2023 held at Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex from 17 to 19 January.

Opening Ceremony of the Festival was officiated by YBrs. Encik Abdul Aziz bin Md Hashim, Deputy Director of Education, Learning Sector, Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Department of Education, and was followed by visits to exhibition booths of various organisations accompanied by President of Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM), Dato' Sri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin, and Secretary General, First Admiral Dato'Subramaniam Raman (B) on 18 January 2023.

PCM exhibits some of the equipment used in para-sports as well as pictorial display of success stories of our para-athletes. PCM participated in this Festival to create greater awareness of the Paralympic Movement.

2023 Program Planning Workshop

Paralympic Division, National Sports Council (MSN) held 2023 Program Planning Workshop on 17 January 2023 at Banquet Hall, Casa 4, MSN, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The purpose of this workshop was to discuss the detailed preparation of 8 National Sports Association who are not included in the current MSN Support Program for participation in ASEAN Para Games 2023 Cambodia and Asian Para Games 2023 Hangzhou. Secretary General of Paralympic Council Malaysia, First Admiral Dato' Subramanian Raman (B) and representatives from National Sports Association participated in the workshop.

MALAYSIA PARA SWIMMING ASSOCIATION TAKES THE FIRST STROKE

Malaysia Para Swimming Association (MPSA) or Persatuan Renang Para Malaysia (PREPMA) held the First Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 14 January 2023 at Pusat Kecemerlangan Paralimpik Kampong Pandan, Kuala Lumpur. MPSA was officially registered by Malaysia Sports Commissioner on 3rd November 2022 and has 7 state para swimming associations, namely Kedah, Penang, Selangor, WP Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, and Sarawak.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has decided to release all sports currently under their direct control to respective international sports federations by 2026. Therefore, the formation of MPSA is timely to heed the call by IPC to National Paralympic Committees worldwide to spearhead the formation of national para swimming associations.

During the AGM, elections were held to elect the committee members. Dato Sri Megat D Shahriman bin Dato Zaharudin was elected unopposed as the President. With this official formation of the association, the management of Para Swimming Sports will be taken over by MPSA from the current custodian Malaysia Swimming Federation (MAS).

The Secretary-General of Paralympic Council Malaysia First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R) was invited to attend this inaugural meeting.

The Secretary General of Paralympic Council Malaysia First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R) was invited to officiate the Launching Ceremony of Malaysia Para Hockey Association on 7 January 2023 at Dorsett Hartamas Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

Certificate of Appreciation

7 January 2023

First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R), Secretary-General of Paralympic Council Malaysia, presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Nur 'Aliya Sabrina Mohd Nawai and Nurul Emyliana Syuhana Mohd Nasir from Universiti Sains Malaysia (Health Campus), who completed their 3-month internship to study the Paralympic Movement. PCM wishes them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.
