Urban Community Sustainability Program – Persons With Disability (OKU) Community Sports
Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) on 7 September 2022 and subsequently Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi through the High-Level Committee on 30 May 2023 decided that Community Games are an important aspect to promote the development of sports in the country. In compliance with this policy directive, Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) has the directive from Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi Orang Kurang Upaya (National Council for Persons With Disability) KPKT and Ministry of Youth & Sports (Kementerian Belia dan Sukan) to implement Sukan Komuniti OKU (SuKOM-OKU) for persons with disability in the country in collaboration with local government authority through the Community Sustainability Programme of KPKT. To start off, PCM on the advice of KPKT has chosen Manjung Municipal Council as the first local authority to launch SuKOM-OKU Manjung 2023 to take place on 16 September 2023, in conjunction with Hari Malaysia. After this we shall endeavour to conduct such programs nationwide.
Objectives
• To Conduct Community Welfare Activities in Accordance with National Community Policy in Local Authority Areas.
• To Empower Development of Human Capital with Disabilities in Local Authority Areas Through Sports.
• To Raise Awareness of Disabled Sports to Unearth New Talent.
• To Create Suitable Infrastructure for the Disabled Sports Community.
• To Move Towards a Caring Society Culture in Accordance with the Concept of Malaysia Madani.
