The Asian Youth Para Games Dubai 2025, held from 7 to 14 December 2025, marked a significant milestone for Malaysia as our young para-athletes stepped onto one of Asia’s most important youth sporting stages. Hosted under the leadership of the Asian Paralympic Committee, the event gathered 1,500 athletes from 45 nations, providing a world-class competitive environment designed to nurture emerging talent and uplift the Paralympic Movement across the region.
Malaysia proudly competed with a strong and diverse contingent of 29 athletes supported by 24 officials. These young Malaysians represented the country across eight sports,Para Athletics, Para Swimming, Para Badminton, Para Archery, Para Table Tennis, Boccia, Para Powerlifting, and Para Taekwondo reflecting the depth of our national development pathways. The contingent included athletes from physical, intellectual, and visual impairment categories, showcasing Malaysia’s commitment to inclusivity and long-term athlete development. Among them stood both the youngest representative, 13-year-old swimmer Elsya Cheong Hui Yon, and the oldest, 20-year-old archer Arthur Shabil, symbolising the wide spectrum of rising stars in Malaysian para-sport.
Malaysia’s delegation was led by Chef de Mission Joshua Edgar Mariyee Joseph, while Para Powerlifting athlete Johannes Gabriel Chew had the honour of carrying the Jalur Gemilang as the nation’s flag bearer. His strong performance on the international stage, including a bronze medal at the Next Gen World Para Powerlifting Championships in Cairo made him a fitting symbol of Malaysia’s strength and potential.
Team Malaysia delivered a remarkable performance in Dubai.
With 29 dedicated athletes, 21 males and 8 females, competing fiercely across eight disciplines, they demonstrated extraordinary strength, unity, and passion. Their efforts resulted in an outstanding total of 39 medals, comprising 14 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze. Every medal earned tells a story of courage, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. This collective achievement stands as a powerful testament to the commitment of our young athletes and the dedication of the coaches, officials, and support staff who guided them throughout the Games.
Throughout their stay, the team was based at Novotel Creek Deira City Centre and Ibis Deira City Centre, accommodations selected for accessibility and convenience. Before departing for Dubai, Malaysia honoured the contingent through the Jalur Gemilang Handover and Flag-Off ceremonies, reflecting nationwide pride and support. The athletes also received structured welfare and incentive initiatives aimed at motivating and recognising their efforts.
The achievements in Dubai not only celebrate the present but also illuminate the promising future of Malaysian para-sport. The success of these young athletes reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to developing future champions who may one day advance to the Asian Para Games and ultimately the Paralympic Games. Their journey, growth, and determination inspire the nation and pave the way for even greater accomplishments.
Together, we celebrate their triumphs and look confidently toward the future. The youth of today are shaping an unstoppable generation for Malaysian para-sport, one defined by talent, resilience, and limitless potential.
