Engaging Young Special Children For Para-Sports

Special Education Sector of Jabatan Pendidikan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (JPWKL) and Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) had a discussion to introduce a structured program for the development of Paralympic Sports for children in Special Education Schools.
Puan Nornai'lah Abdul Latiff from JPWKL and President PCM, Dato Sri Megat D Shahriman, agreed to a joint program to drive Paralympic Movement in special schools. This program will focus on 3 core activities:
(1) Activity 1 – Development of Para Athletes. Structured development of pre-selected core group of 45 young para-athletes over a period of 1 year, conducted in 7 sessions with each session covering 3 days.
(2) Activity 2 – Awareness To Paralympic Movement. Introduction of “I’mPossible” campaign, a global educational program developed by International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to spread the vision and values of the Paralympic Movement to young people of ages 6 to 18.
(3) Activity 3 – Adopt A Para-Sports. Selecting schools with special children to be centre of excellence for a suitable Paralympic Sports.
This program shall be launched in February 2023, and focus on all 74 schools in the Federal Territory involved in providing education for special children. PCM Secretary-General, First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (B) also attended the inaugural engagement between the 2 bodies held at JPWKL on 12 December 2022.
1st SERIES TM (WTF) EXAMINERS AND INSTRUCTORS SEMINAR 2023

The 1st Series TM (WTF) Examiners and Instructors Seminar 2023 was held by Taekwondo Malaysia (WTF) on Sunday, 11 December 2022 at YPC International College Wisma YPC, Kuala Lumpur. The seminar's topics include "Talent Identification & Development for Para Taekwondo Athletes" and "Introduction of Para Taekwondo in Malaysia”. First Admiral Dato’ Subramaniam Raman Nair (R), Secretary-General of the Paralympic Council Malaysia was one of the Speakers who gave a talk on the role of PCM to drive Paralympic Movement in Malaysia.
Inclusive Leadership Program (iLEAP)

Malaysian Olympic In Action Society (MOiAS) is hosting the Inclusive Leadership Program (iLEAP) Workshop from 7 to 9 December 2022 at International Youth Centre, Cheras. The workshop covers social competence, life skills, healthy living, and sport values for youths. First Admiral Dato Subramaniam Raman Nair (R), Secretary-General, and Puan Hafidzah Binti Abd. Khafidz, Vice President of Paralympic Council Malaysia, were among the speakers invited to give a talk on "Paralympic Movement In Malaysia" on 7 December 2022.
Bonnie Selected Special Disability Award (Sports)
On 3 December 2022, in Putrajaya, the Department of Social Welfare held the National Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Both Paralympic Council Malaysia's President, Dato' Sri Megat Shahriman, and Secretary General, First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman (R), attended.
A trophy, certificate of appreciation, and RM5,000 were given to Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (Para Powerlifting). Bravo, Bonnie!
PCM CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM

Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) was invited by International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) to participate in ISKL Inclusive Schools Week Program on 1 December 2022 at ISKL Lorong Kelab Diraja KL. PCM was represented by PCM Secretary-General First Admiral Dato Subramaniam Raman Nair (R) supported by Para-Athletes Suresh Selvathamby (Para Archery), Gloria Gracia Wong Sze (Para Table Tennis) and staffs.
ISKL is currently working on a campaign called DEIJ (Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, Justice) at their school. This campaign is intended to provide motivation for their students and parents to show how they can succeed even with them being challenged with disabilities using DEIJ. With this program, ISKL aims to contribute towards breaking down the stigma of needing extra support for being different.
In this program, ISKL hosted 2 activities:
• CommUNITY Panel Discussion. Para-Athletes Suresh & Gloria took part in the panel discussion, where they shared their involvement and experiences in para-sports. Meanwhile, Dato Subra summed up the role of PCM to drive Paralympic Movement in Malaysia.
• Inclusion Resource Fair. PCM exhibited some of the equipment used in para-sports as well as pictorial display of the success stories of our para-athletes.
PCM participated in this program to create greater awareness of the Paralympic Movement and also to provide an opportunity for our para-athletes to contribute towards building up an inclusive society.

Nur 'Aliya Sabrina Mohd Nawai & Nurul Emyliana Syuhana Mohd Nasir from Universiti Sains Malaysia (Health Campus) have joined the PCM Family starting a 3-month internship to understudy Paralympic Movement. Bonnie Bunyai Gustin is the first Para Powerlifter from Malaysia to win Gold at Commonwealth Games @ Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. In addition to the gold medal he also earned a Longines watch for breaking the men's lightweight record by scoring 154.6 points and breaking the 220 kg mark three times at the Games.
At the recent "Anugerah 100 Plus Perpaduan SAM 2020/2021" held by the Sportswriters Association Malaysia (SAM) (Persatuan Penulis Penulis Sukan Malaysia) at the PJ Hilton on 6 September 2022, he received the "Atlet Para Terbaik SAM 2020/2021" award. He was given a trophy and RM 10,000 cash prize. Paralympic Movement Malaysia is PROUD OF YOU!

Sportswriters Association Malaysia (SAM) (Persatuan Penulis Penulis Sukan Malaysia) held their annual award ceremony titled: the "Anugerah 10 Plus Perpaduan SAM 2020/2021” @ PJ Hilton on 6 September 2022. Dato Sri Megat D. Shahriman, President Paralympic Council of Malaysia, and Secretary-General First Admiral Dato Subramaniam Raman (R) were invited attend this function.
A total of 4 para-athletes were nominated for the award: Datuk Latif Romly (Para Athletics), Cheah Liek Hou (Para-Badminton), Chew Wei Lun (Boccia) and Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (Para Powerlifting). Congratulations to all nominees. Bonnie emerged the winner and was declared "Atlet Para Terbaik SAM 2020/2021." He received a trophy and cash award of RM10,000.00. Syabas Sukan Para.
PCM also congratulates all sport writers, photographers and sports news organisations who were nominated and won awards in the various award categories offered by SAM Awards

On 25 July 2022, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Hospital Pengajar UPM, in collaboration with Rehabilitation Department of Serdang Hospital and Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital, hosted a Rehabilitation Awareness Seminar: "Building Community Support for People with Disabilities” in Putrajaya.

Cambodia 2023 ASEAN Para Games – Coordination Meeting

The Cambodia 2023 ASEAN Para Games Coordination Meeting was held on 11 July 2022 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and was attended by President Dato' Sri Megat D. Shahriman Bin Dato' Zaharudin and Secretary-General First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman Nair (R) of the Paralympic Council Malaysia. The Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia hosted the Coordination Meeting. The CAMSOC and NPCC briefed the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) nations on their outlined plan for hosting the ASEAN Para Games 2023, as well as visits to the proposed sports venues.
The Honourable Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of the NPCC, Samdech Aka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, attended and officiated the programs, as well as hosted the official dinner for the South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) and ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) NPC delegations.
LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF COUNTDOWN 100 DAYS TO SUKAN MALAYSIA XX MSN 2022

Dato 'Sri Megat D. Shahriman Bin Dato' Zaharudin, President of Paralympic Council of Malaysia, and Secretary-General First Admiral Dato’ Subramaniam Raman (R) attended the Launching Ceremony of Countdown 100 Days to Sukan Malaysia XX MSN 2022 on 9 June 2022.
After a delay of 2 years, Sukan Malaysia XX MSN 2022 will be held to commence on September 16 which marks our Malaysia Day and ends on 24 September 2022. Meanwhile, Para SUKMA will be held as from 1 to 6 November 2022. Both these games shall be held around Klang Valley.
SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2022 logos, as well as the games’ mascot – a tiger named "Oyen" were launched along with the official song "Demi Malaysia" played. Details on number of sports for both games will be made known soon.

FRENCH LANGUAGE CLASSES

The Embassy of France in Malaysia offers French language classes to Paralympic Council of Malaysia and Olympic Council of Malaysia as part of the Paris 2024 Paralympic and Olympic Games initiatives. Participants include members of both councils as well as members of national sports associations.
The classes shall be conducted once a week (1 Hour) from March to November 2022. Mr Anthony Loie a French teacher from Alliance Française shall conduct the lessons from OCM Office.
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING – BETWEEN UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA & PARALYMPIC COUNCIL OF MALAYSIA

Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen, promote and develop academic, cultural, and research fields between the two parties based on mutual and equitable benefits. The MoU was signed on 10 December 2020 by President of PCM, Dato Sri Megat D Shariman, and Vice-Chancellor of UiTM, Professor Emeritus Datuk IR. Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim, and handed over in Shah Alam on 12 January 2022.

Latif Romly, our Long Jump Paralympian who successfully defended his gold medal won at Rio 2016 at the recent Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, has been named a recipient of The Brandlaureate Brand Icon Leadership Award 2021 in the category "Sports Icon World of Sports Brand Icon Leadership Award."
This award given for the first time to a Paralympian is based on Latif’s successful performances despite challenges faced due to disabilities. The President, Paralympic Council of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Megat D Shahriman, accompanied him to the stage to receive the award. The Annual Gala Dinner hosted by The Brandlaureate Brand was held on 15 December 2021 at Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The motif of the 'Divine Bird' in Liangzhu Culture inspired the design of 'Fei Fei.' Hangzhou's heritage and its passion for technological innovation are embodied in the mascot.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING – BETWEEN HIVE RESOURCES SDN BHD & PARALYMPIC COUNCIL OF MALAYSIA

Hive Resources Sdn Bhd (HIVE) became the latest Rakan Sukan Para with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM). HIVE owns and operates an automotive detailing ecosystem application called HIVE (App), is offering special privileges to all personnel involved with Paralympic Movement in Malaysia. The current privileges are as follows:
• Lifelong Free Carwash for Any Medalists of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
• Onetime Free Carwash for All Members of Para Contingent to Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
• Provision for Extension of Further Loyalty Privileges.
This arrangement further strengthens the Paralympic Movement Support System driven by PCM. The privileges provided by HIVE is aimed at lessening the financial burden to all our personnel involved in this movement. HIVE will be able to showcase services available and facilitate conveniences for the community of persons with disability about assistive technology used to enhance automotive detailing. PCM at the same time supports a homegrown application tool for mutual benefits.
The MOU was signed by President PCM, Dato Sri Megat D Shariman and Founder of Hive Resources Sdn Bhd, Tuan Mohd Amirol Isa bin Izani, at Estellar Auto Detailer, Bandar Sunway Petaling Jaya on 11 April 2021.
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING – BETWEEN REGEN REHABILITATION INTERNATIONAL SDN BHD & PARALYMPIC COUNCIL OF MALAYSIA

The Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) and ReGen Rehabilitation International Sdn Bhd (ReGen Rehab) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration between both parties in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation. The MoU was signed by President of PCM, Dato Sri Megat D Shariman and CEO of ReGen Rehab, Ms Sue Lee at ReGen Rehab Hospital in Petaling Jaya on 6 April 2021.
This partnership aims to further strengthen the healthcare support system for para-sports athletes. PCM will be able to provide confidence to para-sports athletes with a strong healthcare support system. ReGen Rehab will be able to showcase services available and educate the community of persons with disability about assistive technology used to enhance rehabilitative measures.

CDM WEBINAR – TOKYO PARALYMPICS 2020

CDM Webinar was hosted by Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee from Tokyo on 29 October 2020. A total of 165 countries participated in the webinar with briefings presented by Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, IPC Headquarters in Bonn, Germany, and IPC President from Brazil. Major issues were presented during the virtual briefings included realignment of games timeline, revised logistical plans, qualification rounds and most importantly measures to address Covid-19 pandemic.
Paralympic Council of Malaysia was represented by the President, Dato’ Sri Megat D. Shahriman who is the CDM for Malaysian Paralympic Contingent together with the Secretary-General, First Admiral Dato’ Subramaniam Raman Nair (R) and the General Manager, Mr Mohan Govindasamy.
PCM & AWAM Becoming Strategic Partner in Addressing Issues of Gender-Based Violence

President of Paralympic Council of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Megat D. Shahriman Bin Dato’ Zaharudin and President of All Women’s Action Society (AWAM), Ms. Premalosani Arivananthan signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to work together as strategic partners in addressing Gender-Based Violence issues within PCM Family.
PCM’s Women Development Committee Chairperson, Cik Noor Syahieda Binti Mat Shah presented a short briefing pertaining to the purpose of the partnership, stakeholders involved, and activities that will be executed. AWAM shared statistics of Gender-Based Violence that has happened in national sports landscape which emphasizes the importance and the need to address this matter seriously.
The ceremony was witnessed by Director of Paralympic Division, Encik Mohd Sofian Hamzah and Chief Secretariat of Women in Sports, National Sports Council, Puan Sukhdev Kaur Hans. Athletes and media friends were also present.
The Bata Way – A Leap To Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games!!!

Bata Shoes Sponsorship Handover Ceremony to National Paralympic Contingent bound for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games was held on 26 August 2020 at Atmosphere 360, KL Tower. PCM President Dato Sri Megat D Shahriman Bin Dato’ Zaharudin as the Chef de Mission for Tokyo Paralympic Games received 100 pairs of sports shoes from the Marketing Manager of Bata Primavera, Ms Diana Wong. She mentioned these shoes are the latest series of sports shoes exclusively designed for Malaysian National Contingent bound for Tokyo Games.
The ceremony was also attended by our former badminton supremo Datuk James Selvaraj (Consultant to Bata Primavera), En Sofian Hamzah (Director of Para Sports Division National Sports Council), PCM Executive Board Members and 9 para athletes who have qualified to take part in the games next year. Each athlete received the shoes and pride themselves with a battle cry – We Made It So Can You. A challenge for other athletes aspiring to secure a place for Tokyo Games.
We look forward for more sponsors to contribute towards providing a support system that can be a motivator to bring out their excellence to haul more golden glories for our country.

HEALTHCARE KIT HANDOVER TO NEEDY PARA-SPORTS ATHLETES (PHASE 1)

President of Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) Dato’ Sri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin stepped forward to chip in to arrest the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. On 7 April 2020, at the compound of Menara Kuala Lumpur, Dato' Sri Megat representing PCM distributed Healthcare Kit consisting Vitamin C tablets, sanitizers and face masks to selected coaches who has been tasked to deliver the kit to 60 para athletes in the Klang Valley by e-hailing services.
PARA ATHLETES COVID-19 SUPPORT PROJECT (PHASE 2)

Paralympic Council of Malaysia together with Malaysia Para Athletics Association came up with an initiative to provide basic food supplies to 40 para athletes under MSN Development Program. This activity was held at 1100 Tuesday 21 April @ Centrepoint, Bandar Utama, Kuala Lumpur. The food supplies were delivered by e-hailing services.
PARA ATHLETES COVID-19 SUPPORT PROJECT (PHASE 3)

Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) commenced Phase 3 of Para Athletes Covid-19 Support Project at 1130 Tuesday 28 April @ Pejabat Daerah Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Klang. PCM together with Kiwanis Club of Klang and Selangor Para Athletics Association organised basic food supplies to 20 para-athletes from 4 para sports associations in the Klang Valley. Food supplies were delivered by e-hailing services.
Phase 3 is a continuous effort to seek donors to contribute in cash or in-kind (any food supplies). The food supplies are meant for para-athletes from various para sports associations.
